
Known by her peers to be an accomplished and entertaining presenter, Mary's real talent is
teaching. Mary has over nineteen years professional procurement and materials management
experience in both private industry and government procurement. Ms. Farrar is one of a select
group of purchasing practitioners promoting purchasing excellence as a instructor for Nahabit &
Associates, Inc.In addition to "Ethics for the Newly Appointed Buyer" and "Avoiding Ethical Landmines," seminars, which she co-Authored with Robert J. Nahabit, C.P.M., she travels the U.S. extensively presenting "Basics for Buyers" and "Purchasing for the Newly Appointed Buyer." Mary also presents "Fundamentals of Purchasing;" and "Applied Purchasing Techniques" seminars.
Mary is an active member of the Austin Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management, and was a charter member and officer of Austin's National Institute of Governmental Purchasers (N.I.G.P.) chapter founded in 1982. The National Institute of Government Purchasing (N.I.G.P.) certified Mary as a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) early in her career.
Mary brings to the classroom a versatility based on in-depth experience in a wide variety of purchasing environments. She has developed and implemented purchasing organizations for both municipal government and private industry, authoring purchasing policies and procedures in both arenas. Her international experience in the high-tech industry brings a global flair to her presentations. She "practices what she teaches" every day.
Mary is gainfully involved in theater in Texas as a regular, touring member of Capital City Mystery Players in Austin. Mary and two Austin-area actors founded their own murder mystery production company, Die Laughing, in 1995, staging interactive performances in the Austin area and her home town, Abilene, Texas, where she scripted a benefit show for the Noah Project, which funds women's shelters in a 22 county area. Participating in community, professional and mystery dinner theater brings humor and excitement to Mary's presentation skills that are seldom found in the purchasing arena. She has been dubbed the "Quip Queen of Austin" by her professional theater associates.
